Craft Beverage Labels

Craft Beverage Labels

I have always had a passion for the marketing and design related to the craft beer and local winery industries—when that exceptional label catches your eye at the liquor store and draws you in, that’s when the magic really happens. The beverage industry has such a wide range of artist styles and the most successful labels tell the story behind the drink inside.

Jowler Creek Winery // J. Creek Vineyard & Winery

Jowler Creek Vineyard & Winery is owned and operated by Jason and Kit Lacy, Kansas City born and raised siblings. With their families, they now manage more than 3,500 grapevines and produce several wines in various styles ranging from dry to sweet. Their passion and love for agriculture and wine run as deep as the roots in their 7-acre sustainable vineyard. They contracted me to create a few labels based on the existing brand of Jowler Creek as well as come up with a new, elevated brand that would align with their event space and restaurant line of wines under the name J. Creek Vineyard & Winery.

Double Shift Brewing Co.

A Kansas City destination for well-made, delicious craft beer! I had the unique opportunity to partner with the head brewer at Double Shift to come up with my own beer recipe and brew it with him on their 10-Barrel system. My Peach Berliner-Style Weisse named “Side Bends or Sit Ups” (thank you for the inspiration, Sir Mix-a-Lot!) was officially released and served in the taproom in early September 2020. This beer came out as a smoothie sour with a buttload of peachy, juicy goodness and only 4.3% ABV. It had the flavor and bite of an apricot tart rounded out with subtle finishing notes of marigold black tea. Though it wasn’t distributed this time around (taproom draft release only), I was able to design a label to help promote it on their social channels.

Homegrown Brewing

As a side passion, my husband and I homebrew beer to share with friends and family. Each batch has a unique flavor and a story. It is my goal to capture those qualities when making each label. Once the beer is ready to sample and bottle, I work with my husband to determine the name and description for each beer. Then I create the label design around that idea. Typically, I like to have the focus to be on a hand-drawn or painted illustration and then I pair it with a typeface that speaks to the style of beer.
